Inspired by Romance: A French Countryside Picnic Meets Midwest Charm

I recently had the joy of photographing Shannon and Riley’s romantic French picnic engagement session at the beautiful Pope Farm Conservancy in Middleton, Wisconsin. This sweet couple will say “I do” next spring at The Lageret in Stoughton. Their love story is a beautiful mix of patience, devotion, and shared dreams.

A Love That Grew Across the Miles

Shannon and Riley first met through mutual friends. Even though their relationship started long distance, their connection only grew stronger over time. After many miles apart and lots of cherished memories, they recently took a big step forward—they bought a home together! Now, they’re building a life side by side, with their beloved dog Mosby adding extra joy to every day.

French Country Charm in the Midwest

For their engagement session, they wanted something special. Their vision was a timeless, romantic scene inspired by the charm of a French countryside picnic. We styled a cozy setup in the golden fields of Pope Farm. A bottle of Veuve Clicquot, a simple white cake personalized with their wedding date, and fresh white roses helped bring the look to life.

We added a soft quilt, a marble-and-wood serving board, and a wicker basket to tie everything together. It felt elegant but relaxed—just like them.

A Warm, Joyful Evening

The session was filled with peaceful, joyful moments. Shannon and Riley cuddled up under a tree and read together. They laughed over champagne and wandered hand in hand through the wildflowers. Every glance and smile felt completely natural. Their ease with each other made the entire session shine.

Looking Ahead

This dreamy evening at Pope Farm was unforgettable. I can’t wait to capture their wedding next spring at The Lageret. It’s sure to be another beautiful chapter in their love story.
